THE ENOTRIUM SETTLEMENT AT THE PETROSA

The position of the site results particularly in favourable at the establishment.
Some digging operations executed in 1975 from the Superintendence of the Archaeological Goods of Calabria have brought to light testimoniances relating to one of the most important indigenous settlement archaic age on the Calabrian Tyrrhenian coast.
The digs have interested archaeological stratification relating to huts with stone foundations and building in air-dried bricks, with roofing realized in vegetal material compacted by mud and clay.

The digs have furthermore given back notable quantities of dough pottery and containers decorated with geometric patterns typical of the Enotrium cultural heritage, as testified in the near necropolis of Tortora. Relevant is the number of the Greek transport amphora which show commercial relationships with the merchants along the Tyrrhenian coast and the need of oil and wine supplying, typical products of the Greek cities.

Laos among the current Marcellina
The hypothesis of a connection between the cessation of life in Petrosa and the foundation of Laos among the current Marcellina from the survivors Sybaritics, at the end of the VI century, it’s to link to the new organisation of the territory consequent at the permanent presence of a incompatible Greek community with the presence of indigenous nucleus structured.
Similarly others indigenous centres located on the basis of sporadic testimoniances along the coast among Maratea, San Nicola Arcella, San Bartolo di Marcellina and Petrosa of Scalea seem disappear in the same period.
